Bio:

Julie studied Sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art from 1983-87. She continued her studies through to 1989 achieving a Post Graduate Diploma in Fine Art. In 1990 she qualified from Moray House as a School Teacher and taught in both Primary and Secondary schools throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Julie worked in further Education for 20 years. She was Vice Principal at Edinburgh College and was the Campus Director of the Milton Road Campus.  Her main areas of responsibility included Learning and Teaching; Quality Enhancement, Quality Assurance, Equality & Diversity, Student Services; Student Association; Professional Development for Academics (research); Learning Resources; Equalities – cultural competence and the quality of the student/customer experience.  As Vice Principal Julie had strategic responsibility for all college performance developing and writing both the Scottish Funding Council Outcome Agreement and the college Equality Outcomes. She directed the work of the Academic Council which is a sub Committee of the Board of Management.

Julie has held two seconded positions with the Scottish Funding Council as Assistant Director of Strategic Development and Outcome Agreement Manager.

Julie works as an Educational Consultant and is currently working with GOPA Consultants Germany as a member of their delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova. As a Senior Key Expert, she is supporting the strategic development of TVET colleges to support the establishment of centres of excellence.

Dr Julian Luxford

Bio:

Julian is a historian of medieval art, architecture and ideas. He has degrees from the universities of La Trobe (in Melbourne) and Cambridge (PhD), and was a Junior Research Fellow at Clare College Cambridge.

Julian came to the University of St Andrews in 2004, and is currently Head of the School of Art History there. Among other things, he is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries on London, the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and the Royal Historical Society; a council member of the British Archaeological Association, and a member of the Durham Cathedral Fabric Advisory Committee as a representative of the Cathedrals Fabric Commission for England.

Bio:

Artist & Curator

Duncan works as an artist, producer, arts administrator and curator, and has been a member of Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop since graduating with a degree in Sculpture in 1997.

His background is predominantly in museums and gallery practice; researching, commissioning and presenting contemporary visual and public art projects in Scotland and in Europe, for himself, for regional institutions and national organisations.

Bio: 

Artist and Lecturer (Royal College of Art, London)

Kate is a sculptor whose practice includes performative lectures, video, drawings, texts and objects; which are often all brought together in the same exhibition. She was made a Fellow of the Royal College in 2009 and is presently External Examiner at UWIC, Sunderland and Wimbledon (MA).  She studied at Hertfordshire College of Art, Falmouth School of Art and the Slade, London.

She has received numerous awards; including the Sydney Water Sculpture Prize; the first Jerwood Drawing Prize; the Sargant fellowship at the British School of Rome; the Stanley Picker Fellowship and the Young Artist of the Year Award at Whitechapel Gallery, London. She has taught extensively throughout the UK, exhibits nationally and internationally; and is currently represented by Fred [London].

Zoë Fothergill

Bio:

Artist

Zoë Fothergill is an artist based in the North West Highlands of Scotland in a remote off-grid crofting community. Graduating from ECA’s MFA in Contemporary Art Practice in 2012, she won the John Watson Prize and initiated a Creative Scotland funded residency at Hospitalfield Art in Arbroath.

Since then she has exhibited widely including at Nottingham Contemporary, the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Flood in Dublin and at the Film Forum in Los Angeles and Spectacle Theater in Brooklyn. In 2017 she is returning to work after starting a family.

Graeme Dickson

Bio:

Graeme Dickson studied geology at the University of Edinburgh and worked in the oil industry in the UK and overseas as a geophysicist. In 1987 Graeme was attracted by a campaign to recruit scientists from industry into the Civil Service.

He joined HM Treasury and quickly became hooked on the excitement of politics. After seven years in Whitehall, Graeme returned to Scotland to work for what has now become the Scottish Government. He held a number of roles there including Director of Industry and Energy and, for some six years, Director of Healthcare Integration.  In 2011 Graeme was appointed as Director General Enterprise, Environment and Innovation in the Scottish Government. He held the post until May 2016.

Graeme recently took the opportunity to follow his passion and return to the University of Edinburgh to study for their award-winning MSc in Carbon Management. He plans to make the next development of his career in this field.

Bio:

Steven Doherty has been working with the board since January 2017.  He chairs the marketing committee, reporting to and attending board meetings.

Steven is a senior brand manager at Standard Life and a board trustee at Venture Scotland.

Before this he worked in marketing, advertising and brand roles for Sky, Discovery Networks UK and News UK and has provided pro-bono brand and marketing strategy support to different charities.

Màiri Lafferty

Bio:

Màiri Lafferty is an artist, producer and programmer for film and visual art. She is the Curator of Engagement at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, working across curatorial, education, and digital teams and with external partners to promote and deepen audience engagement with the programme.

Previously she has worked in publishing and in 2014 was the Digital Coordinator for GENERATION, a nationwide programme of exhibitions and events celebrating 25 years of contemporary art in Scotland.

Màiri studied Sculpture at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and gained a Masters in Fine Art from the Glasgow School of Art.
