Micro Residency Programme 2012-13

Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop is seeking applicants for the 2012-13 Micro Residency Programme.

The Micro Residency programme was set up to give artists time and space to develop their research and practice and this year’s will be first to take place in the new, purpose built, Sculpture Centre. The new building’s expanded facilities and spaces will greatly increase the potential of this opportunity. This will be the U.K’s first building of this type and operates with in a framework designed to empower artists.

Set up to foster experimentation and encourage interdisciplinary practice, the residencies offer participants the opportunity to undertake an intensive six week period of research. The flexible nature of the programme allows artists to explore new ideas out with their normal practice whilst benefitting from ESW’s facilities and staff support.

Each residency will have two events that will enable the E.S.W’s artist’s community public to meet and talk with the selected artists. The format of these events will be designed by the artist.

Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop is based in Newhaven close the vibrant cultural hub of Leith and with easy access to the centre of Edinburgh. This places it with in a network of galleries, museums, arts festivals and technical facilities. The residency also provides opportunities for networking between residents the broader cultural life of Scotland.


Each Micro Residency lasts six weeks, and artists will receive

-    £300 stipend
-    A studio
-    Support from the technical team
-    Support from the programme team
-    Access to workshop equipment
-    1 years Membership of ESW
-    Accommodation can be offered to artists not resident in Edinburgh.

-    artist’s statement
