Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop is seeking applicants for their 2012 Creative Initiative

This year’s will be first to take place in the new, purpose built, Sculpture Centre. The new building’s expanded facilities and spaces will greatly increase the potential of this opportunity. This will be the U.K’s first building of this type and operates with in a framework designed to empower artists.

The Creative Initiative Awards have been created to provide funding and assistance to artists wishing to develop and realise innovative artistic projects. The nature of these projects could be anything but proposals should be ambitious, innovative and have a specific set of outcomes. Past awards have supported large a scale public art project, materials and skills research and interdisciplinary collaboration. The flexibility of this opportunity allows artists to tailor their proposal to their practice enabling them to engage directly with their own concerns and interests. ESW will support the artist in delivering a public event or outcome on completion of the award.

Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop is based in Newhaven close the vibrant cultural hub of Leith and a short distance from the centre of Edinburgh, placing us with in a network of galleries, museums, arts festivals and technical facilities. The residency also provides opportunities for networking between residents the broader cultural life of Scotland.




Each Creative Initiative will last 3 – 6 months and artists will receive
-    £2400 Stipend
-    A studio for 6 months or a studio and accommodation for 3 months
-    Support from the technical team
-    Support from the programme team
-    Access to workshop equipment
-    1 years Membership of ESW


The award offers a fee of £2,400 and a studio space at ESW for up to 6 months. Specialist support will be provided by ESW to enable artists to create new work or realize a specific project.
