Biography
Adrian Wiszniewski was born in Glasgow in 1958, of Polish extraction. He trained at the Mackintosh School of Architecture from 1975-79 and then at Glasgow School of Art between 1979-83.

Between 1982 & 84, he won a series of scholarships including the Cargill Award and Mark Rotho Memorial Trust Fund, and achieved rapid success with his first work being bought by the Tate when he was only 27, and others going to the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Wiszniewski is a painter of figurative subjects in acrylic, charcoal, oil and watercolour, also etcher, and much of his early work was in charcoal on paper. His paintings depict an Arcadian world populated by awkward-looking young men, many of which are covert self-portraits but, latterly, he has concentrated on large oil paintings. Densely worked, patterned surfaces have given way to greater clarity of design while the imagery has remained obscure.
