Frank Pottinger RSA

I was invited to make a small sculpture which had a relationship of some kind to the Bass Rock. I was thinking of its geological formation, of a layered structure - hence the sliced form of it.
Biography
Frank Pottinger’s working life began as a fitter engineer, followed by national service, then study at Edinburgh College of Art achieving the Diploma in Sculpture. He was also a teacher and lecturer.
He has exhibited in the SSA, the RSA, the Scottish Sculpture “Open” and in other UK venues: Yorkshire Sculpture Park; Peterloo Gallery, Manchester; Richard Demarco Gallery; 3rd Eye, Glasgow; Camden Arts Centre; St Magnus Music Festival, Orkney. Pottinger has been included in the Dundee Print Open and Harlech Print Open both in 2000, in the Napier University 450 print folio and likewise this year’s Edinburgh Printmakers folio “Multiple Surfaces”.
He has received awards from IBM and Mobil North Sea Awards and the RSA William J Macaulay Prize. Some past commissions include : The Woodland Trust; Heriot Watt University; The Scottish Parliament; the Western Isles Health Board, and he has been on residencies in: Regensburg Bavaria, stone carving; at Europas Parkas in Lithuania, a work for the forest sculpture trail and at the Scottish Sculpture Workshop making small bronzes. |
