John Brown
Title: Scarper
Date: 2009
Bronze, H 8cms x D 14 x W 16
I have been making a lot of work about runners recently. There are images both about single figures scarpering from some situation or big groups racing in one direction. I guess they are coming from comics like the Beano, films like North by Northwest, or the news where characters often have to leg it away from someone or something.
Biography
Having grown up near Castle Douglas in the south west of Scotland, John Brown moved to Edinburgh to study in the painting school at Edinburgh College of Art in 1985, graduating with a master’s degree in 1991.
Since then Brown has made a wide range of work with the core of it centred on drawing and the accumulation of “stuff”. Recent projects have included multi-fragmentary installations of built-up collages of drawings, and these have taken place in various locations including Kyoto, Japan and Kansas City and Nashville, USA.
