Biography
Edinburgh based artist Val Ferguson creates unique and imaginative sculptures. Working primarily with metals, wood and textiles, Val reveals the familiar contrasted with imaginative design and variations in scale and texture. Val enjoys exploring new ideas, materials and techniques, bringing them into her pieces, making them individual.
Val's metalwork is often spontaneous and organic in form, believing in impressing on steel a delicacy that belies its inherent strength. Her early training in textile art, along with a passion for metalwork, has led her to develop a style that bridges both crafts, by their subtle and refined interaction.
Horticulture is a significant inspiration for Val, as she enjoys gardening and learning about plants, so they frequently feature in elements of her pieces.
Val's art consists of her own ideas, site-specific sculptures and installations for art exhibitions and private collections.
