Over the years as an artist Julia has worked in a variety of media from drawing and painting to wood carving and clay modelling. Her new found media is papier mache on wire which she use to create both wall-hanging and more three-dimensional pieces on stands.
She has always been inspired by art which captures movement and aims to do the same in her own work, creating three-dimensional sketches. This is why dancing figures feature so often as the subject as well as animals and dragons.
Julia's work is recognised for its spontaneity and uniqueness and many dancers appreciate the flow of movement it portrays. In all of her work Julia draws on the influences of Japanese calligraphy and many of the works by Robert Heindel.
Small maquettes that Julia has made are the inspiration for large outdoor works. The first image on this page is a six feet high cement sculpture inspired by a six inch maquette. This work is situated in Parlyhill, Culross, Fife. This was made on a course at ESW. Julia is currently working on an eight feet high sculpture of a maquette called "Hope" (next image).
