Taffa

Your future in a teacup.

A humorous crossover between technology and psychic power, Taffa Tasseomancer is a digital divinator. Mobile users navigate to www.taffa.co.uk and meet friendly tea lady Taffa, who asks you questions and then suggests a tea. When you are ready, Taffa does a reading of your digital tea leaves.

The tea room and Taffa character were created and animated in Maya.
Real tea leaves were scattered on large paper and photographed. The photographs were then digitally manipulated to enhance any images , numbers etc. The final images were mapped onto a 3D model of a cup in Maya.
Programming was created using PHP. Web pages in XHTML MP. Video transferred to 3gp using Quicktime. There is a web interface to enable easy upload of new animations and readings to the database.
Taffa Tasseomancer was created with funding for Pocket Shorts; the mobile content funding and development scheme supported by Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Screen and NESTA.
Notes
Taffa greets you differently, depending on what time of day that you access the site (this function only works for the UK time zone).
Each 3gp reading is from 10 to 25 secs long. At the moment there are 16 possible readings.

The Bad Reading was created especially for festivals.
